It's Okay to Be Confused

Embrace the Awkward

Welcome to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. You're going to feel awkward. You might not know where your limbs are. And that is completely, 100% normal. Our Fundamentals Programme is specifically designed for people with zero martial arts experience.

We assume you know nothing about grappling and build your skills from the ground up. We focus on core survival positions, escaping from underneath larger opponents, and the basic mechanics of leverage. This is the most important phase of your journey.

Forget about "fighting". In these classes, your only goal is to learn and to move. You will be partnered with experienced students or fellow beginners in a safe, ego-free environment where questions are encouraged.

Zero Experience Needed

Designed specifically for total beginners. We start from square one with every movement.

Self-Defense First

Focusing on the techniques that keep you safe and in control during a real-world encounter.

Ego-Free Environment

A culture of mutual support. We are here to learn together, not to prove who is strongest.

Step-by-Step Instruction

Complex movements broken down into simple, repeatable steps by certified BJJ coaches.

Improved Fitness

Build core strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance while learning a valuable skill.

Safety & Control Focus

Learning how to apply technique with precision and care for your training partners.

Beginner Q&A

Do I need to be in shape before I start?

No. You do Jiu Jitsu to get in shape. Our Fundamentals classes are designed to build your conditioning gradually alongside your technique.

What should I wear for my first class?

For your intro, comfortable gym gear (shorts/leggings and a t-shirt) is perfect. If you decide to join, we'll guide you on getting your first SBG Gi.

Will I get hurt?

Safety is our primary value. In Fundamentals, we focus on technical drills and controlled movement to minimise risk while you learn the mechanics.

Am I too old to start?

Never. We have members starting in their 40s, 50s, and beyond. BJJ is about leverage, not athleticism—it's designed for longevity.

How long does the Fundamentals course last?

The curriculum covers the core positions of BJJ. Most students spend several months in Fundamentals before transitioning to the intermediate "Sunday Service" and advanced classes.
